Chapter 1 · Buying your first Porsche · by HBi Auto

Buying a Cayman

The mid-engine Porsche coupe since 2006: 987, 981 and 718, plus the GT4 and GT4 RS.

Buying a Cayman

The Cayman is the coupe version of the Boxster, built since 2006. The fixed roof makes it stiffer and sharper, and many drivers think it handles better than a 911. The Cayman GT4 and GT4 RS turned it into one of the most wanted driver's cars of the last decade.

Like the 911, the generation decides most of what you need to know: engine type, gearbox and the problems to check.

The buying process

  1. Find and price it

Compare the car with what the same model actually sold for, adjusted for miles, options and records.

  2. Ask the right questions

Who serviced it, why it is for sale, any accidents or paintwork, and can you see every record before you travel.

  3. Inspect it

A specialist pre-purchase inspection, paid by you, reported to you.

  4. Agree the deal

Price, what is fixed before delivery, deposit terms and a written bill of sale.

  5. Pay safely and ship it

Wire only to a verified account, never on instructions that arrive by email alone. Ship enclosed for anything rare or valuable.
