Chapter 1 · Porsche 911 · by HBi Auto
Buying a Porsche 991 (2012–2019)
The 991 is longer, wider and more refined: electric power steering, a seven-speed manual, and a much bigger choice of models.

The 991 is longer, wider and more refined: electric power steering, a seven-speed manual, and a much bigger choice of models. The 991.1 (2012–2016) keeps naturally aspirated 3.4 and 3.8 engines; the 991.2 (2017–2019) Carrera moved to a 3.0 twin-turbo with far more torque.
The GT cars define the generation. The 991.1 GT3 was PDK only; the 991.2 GT3 brought back the manual with a 4.0-litre engine, plus the Touring, the 911 R, the GT2 RS and the Speedster.

What to look for
991.1 GT3 engines
Early cars were recalled and many had engines replaced by Porsche. Check what was done and that the paperwork is with the car.
Over-revs
Manual cars store over-rev history in the engine computer. Read it with a factory scan.
Front lift and PDCC
Check every hydraulic option works; they are costly to fix.
Maintenance schedule
Maintenance planner
Pick the car, enter its miles and model year: the planner shows what is due now, the next services and the full schedule, whichever comes first, miles or years.

Intervals are whichever comes first, miles or years. "Porsche factory (converted from km)" means Porsche's own figure for another market, turned into miles with the same km-to-mile pairing Porsche uses in the US. Your car's own maintenance booklet is the final word. HBi Auto's recommendations for cars that are tracked, driven hard or stored are being added by our service team.
