Pricing Porsche trade-ins and appraisals with sold data

Pricing Porsche trade-ins and appraisals with sold data

A book value does not know a Paint to Sample GT3 from a silver one, or a manual from a PDK. On Porsche GT, Turbo and good Carrera trades, recorded sales of the same model are a better starting point. Here is the method we use ourselves.

The method

  1. Pin the exact model. Generation, trim and gearbox. Decode the VIN to confirm the options.
  2. Pull recent sales of that model. Last 24 months first; widen only if the sample is thin.
  3. Respect the sample size. We do not quote a median from fewer than 5 sales. With fewer, look at each sale one by one instead.
  4. Adjust for the car. Miles, options, color, records, accident history and condition. Spec can move a GT car more than miles.
  5. Check the live market. How many are listed, at what asking prices, and how long they have sat. That is your competition at retail.
  6. Work back to your number. Subtract reconditioning, transport, holding cost and your margin. See wholesale vs retail.

An example from the data

The 991.2 GT3: as of Oct 20, 2026, 911 Tracker has 197 recorded sales, 48 in the last 24 months with a median of $199,400, and 84 listed for sale now with a median asking price of $235,900 (81 priced). That median is the start of an appraisal, not the end: the car in front of you has its own miles, spec, color and history. Members see each sale with its miles and options on 911 Tracker.

Pitfalls

  • Asking is not sold

Listings show what sellers hope for. Price from sales.

  • Unlike mixes

A median across mixed miles and specs hides the car in front of you. Compare like with like and say when you cannot.

  • Stale data

A sale from three years ago is a different market. Weight recent sales.
