Chapter 1 · Buying your first Porsche · by HBi Auto

Buying a Macan

The compact Porsche SUV, petrol 95B and the new electric Macan.

Buying a Macan

The Macan is the best-selling Porsche of the last decade: a compact SUV that drives like a hot hatch. The first generation (95B, 2015–2024) uses petrol engines and a PDK; the second generation is electric.

911 Tracker does not follow the Macan yet, so this page has no market numbers. HBi Auto can price one for you directly.

95B (2015–2024)

Four-cylinder, V6 and twin-turbo V6 versions, updated in 2019 and again in 2022 with the GTS at the top.

What to look for

  • PDK service

The transmission fluid is on a schedule; check that it was done.

  • Brakes and tires

Heavy and fast: they wear quickly.

Maintenance

Maintenance planner

Pick the car, enter its miles and model year: the planner shows what is due now, the next services and the full schedule, whichever comes first, miles or years.

Macan (95B), 2015–2024: what is done, version by version

Not verified yet: Transfer case and drive belt; Cabin filter interval.

Confidence: Medium. Sources: 1.

Intervals are whichever comes first, miles or years. "Porsche factory (converted from km)" means Porsche's own figure for another market, turned into miles with the same km-to-mile pairing Porsche uses in the US. Your car's own maintenance booklet is the final word. HBi Auto's recommendations for cars that are tracked, driven hard or stored are being added by our service team.

Maintenance

We have not found a factory maintenance schedule for these cars that we can verify, so we do not print one. Older Porsches are best serviced on time rather than on miles: oil and brake fluid at least every year or two, and a specialist inspection every year.

The pre-purchase inspection

How we inspect every Macan before we buy one. Use the same steps wherever you buy.

  1. VIN, history and build

Decode the VIN, match the build sheet and options, read every service record and the history report.

  2. Factory scan

Read every control unit with Porsche PIWIS: stored faults and, on manual cars, the over-rev history.

  3. Engine health

Compression and leak-down on older engines, a borescope where the model calls for it, oil checked for metal.

  4. On the lift

Leaks, coolant pipes and hoses, mounts, bushings, brakes, tires and any sign of accident repair.

  5. Road test

Cold start, clutch or PDK behaviour, gear changes, brakes and noises at speed.

The buying process

  1. Find and price it

Compare the car with what the same model actually sold for, adjusted for miles, options and records.

  2. Ask the right questions

Who serviced it, why it is for sale, any accidents or paintwork, and can you see every record before you travel.

  3. Inspect it

A specialist pre-purchase inspection, paid by you, reported to you.

  4. Agree the deal

Price, what is fixed before delivery, deposit terms and a written bill of sale.

  5. Pay safely and ship it

Wire only to a verified account, never on instructions that arrive by email alone. Ship enclosed for anything rare or valuable.
