What it really sells for, what moves the price, what to check and the maintenance it needs.

Buying a Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose

The 930 Turbo Slantnose is part of the Early 911 & 930 Turbo generation (1964–1989). Porsche built about 948 worldwide, 160 of them for the US. This lesson covers what it really sells for, what moves the price, what to check and how to look after it.

What to look for

  • Rust

Floors, front pan, kidney bowls and door bottoms. Repair costs dwarf mechanical work.

  • Chain tensioners

Early tensioners fail; most cars have been upgraded to the pressure-fed Carrera type. Ask for proof.

  • Head studs

2.7-litre engines from 1974–77 are known for pulled head studs.

  • Matching numbers

Engine and gearbox numbers that match the car add real money. Verify them on the inspection.

Maintenance schedule

We have not found a factory maintenance schedule for these cars that we can verify, so we do not print one. Older Porsches are best serviced on time rather than on miles: oil and brake fluid at least every year or two, and a specialist inspection every year.
