Common problems

  • Front coolant crossover pipes / radiator lines (moderate)On 997.2-era cars the coolant pipes running to the front radiators can leak at joints as rubber sections perish and metal connectors corrode; an early sign is a sweet coolant smell at the front. Neglect can lead to overheating. (The glued engine coolant-pipe issue is tied to Mezger engines, not the 997.2 Turbo's DFI engine, per FCP Euro.)Fix: Replace the crossover pipes/hoses as a set.Source
  • DFI high-pressure fuel pump failure (moderate)997.2 direct-injection engines can suffer high-pressure fuel pump failure, causing limp mode or a no-start, often without warning.Fix: Replace the pump; parts are costly.Source
  • Intake valve carbon build-up (direct injection) (minor)With no port injection to wash the valves, deposits build up on intake valves over time.Fix: Inspect and clean intake valves periodically (walnut blasting or similar).Source
  • Front radiators / A/C condensers damaged or clogged (minor)The front radiators and A/C condensers sit behind the bumper openings and collect debris or get damaged; condensers are a known failure item.Fix: Remove bumper to clean annually; replace damaged radiators/condensers.Source
  • PCCB rotor cracking (if fitted) (moderate)Optional on the Turbo (standard on Turbo S); radial or through-cracks condemn the disc (surface crazing is acceptable).Fix: Replace disc(s) or convert to iron.Source
