Introducing the weekly 911 market update: GT cars set the tone

Porsche 911

Welcome to the first weekly 911 market update from 911 Buyers. Every Monday we'll post a short, plain-English read on the Porsche 911 market: what actually sold, what's for sale right now, and where asking prices sit for each generation. It's written from 911 Tracker, the database of VIN-checked sales and live listings we use to price every car we buy, so whether you own a 911, want to buy one or buy them for a living, you're looking at the same numbers we are.

A quick note on how to read these. Sold prices are real results we recorded, mostly from auctions. Asking prices are what sellers want today, which is not the same thing. When a number is based on only a handful of cars we say so, and when we compare two numbers that cover different groups of cars, we point that out too.

Last week's sales: the top of the GT market showed up

911 Tracker recorded six priced 911 sales from Oct 12 to Oct 18, and every one was a GT car sold at auction on Bring a Trailer. That's why the week's median looks high ($471,000). It reflects which cars crossed the block, not a jump in 911 prices across the board.

The headline was a 2018 991.2 GT2 RS with just 799 miles that sold for $800,000. That's right in line with what dealers are asking for GT2 RS cars: across 84 priced listings, the median asking price is $797,400. Mileage clearly matters at this level. Earlier in the week, a 2018 GT2 RS with 23,000 miles was bid to $467,000 and didn't sell.

Two 997-generation cars followed. A 2008 997.1 GT3 RS with 8,000 miles brought $600,666, and a 2008 997.1 GT2 with 26,000 miles sold for $502,008. The GT2 landed below every one of the four 997.1 GT2s currently priced for sale, which run from about $465,000 to $659,000. With only four listings that's not a market median, but it's worth noting if you're shopping or pricing one.

The newer cars told a similar story. A 2023 992.1 GT3 RS with 3,900 miles sold for $440,000, and a 2022 992.1 GT3 with 5,000 miles sold for $265,000. A 2016 991.1 GT3 RS in Viper Green with 15,000 miles sold for $240,000, just under the $247,500 median asking price for that model across 32 listings. Three other cars were bid but didn't sell, including a nearly new 992.1 GT3 RS bid to $438,992 and a 2025 992.2 GT3 bid to $288,500.

The bigger picture: 90 days and 597 cars for sale

Zooming out gives a steadier read. Over the last 90 days, 911 Tracker recorded 97 priced 911 sales with a median of $278,000. By generation, 992s sold at a median of $299,100 across 30 sales, 991s at $278,000 across 39, and 997s at $240,000 across 17. These are mostly GT and Turbo cars, which is where most of the auction activity is.

On the for-sale side we're tracking 597 911s across the US. The 991 generation makes up most of that: 366 listings at a median asking price of $260,000. 997s sit at $165,000 across 146 listings, and 996s at $129,000 across 85. The models with the most cars listed right now are the 991.2 GT2 RS (97), the 991.2 GT3 (84) and the 991.1 GT3 (73). For buyers, that's real choice. For sellers of those models, it means your car is being compared against a lot of others, so condition, miles and records matter.

What to watch

For owners of a 991.2 GT3 (median asking $235,900 across 81 listings) or a 991.1 GT3 ($147,600 across 68), supply is deep, and the gap between the best and the average car is wide. Low miles, a clean history and the right options are what separate a quick sale from a long one. On the other end, early-car collectors should keep an eye on the 996.2 GT3 RS, which is being offered between roughly $480,000 and $680,000 by sellers right now.
